Treatments for Fine Lines and Wrinkles
Fine lines and wrinkles can add years to a person’s appearance and negatively impact their self-esteem. Thankfully, there are more options to combat the signs of aging than ever before.
Botox is a simple, non-surgical procedure that relaxes the facial muscles to stop dynamic wrinkles from forming. Botox is injected directly into the facial muscle with a very fine needle to smooth away wrinkles. Because, Botox temporarily immobilizes the facial muscles from contracting, patients can also use this treatment to prevent future dynamic wrinkles from developing. Patients experience little to no discomfort during the procedure and results typically last 3-6 months.
Over time, your skin loses elasticity, which contributes to moderate to severe parentheses lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth. JUVÉDERM® XC and JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC add volume to smooth these lines and folds, to help give you the subtle, long-lasting results you want.
Restylane Defyne and Refyne give patients natural-looking, flexible filling of the wrinkles and folds around the mouth.
- Restylane Lyft, as the name suggests, provides lift by filling the mid-face or cheeks. This new volume in the cheek area provides a lower facelift, gently lifting the jowls and providing patients with a smoother jawline. It’s also suitable for cheek enhancement.
- Restylane Silk was the first specialized filler to join Restylane-L and is specially formulated as a smooth, natural-looking lip enhancement filler.
The Fraxel™ Laser Treatment offers a “fractional” approach to laser skin resurfacing. This treatment represents a novel way to improve sun-damaged, wrinkled, discolored and scarred skin by offering patients the positive results of CO2 and Erbium:YAG laser treatments with no to minimal downtime. Aggressive treatments may make patients somewhat pink and swollen for a day or more. This innovative approach is specially designed to alter only fractional volumes of the skin. Similar to digital alteration of photographs and paintings, the clinical effect of this treatment technique is to alter the appearance of aging, sun-damaged and scarred skin. The creation of tiny micro-wounds results in a microscopic wound healing process and the resultant formation of new collagen fibers.
Chemical peels use a combination of safe chemicals to remove the damaged surface layer of the skin. The new, regenerated skin underneath is smoother and significantly less wrinkled. There are different levels of peels that provide a different level of penetration in the skin. The deeper the depth of the peel the more dramatic the results will be and the longer it will take for the skin to heal. Light peels penetrate the upper layer of the skin and are recommended for superficial wrinkles. Medium peels reach the top of the dermal layer and are effective for mild to moderate wrinkles. Deeper peels target the deep layers of the skin and are used to treat deeper more severe facial wrinkling.
Microneedling is extremely effective in reducing fine lines and wrinkles. If you are unfamiliar with this treatment, you should basically know that it involves using a special device on the facial skin.
So, why is microneedling effective when it comes to reducing fine lines and wrinkles? It all has to do with the fact that micro-channels are created in the skin during the treatment. Since very small punctures are made in the skin, the skin goes into overdrive producing beneficial substances, like elastin and collagen. As you get older and you lose these substances, you start experiencing fine lines and wrinkles. Since this treatment encourages your skin to produce more of these substances, it is going to minimize fine lines and wrinkles and give your skin a much more youthful look.
This treatment is also beneficial because we can apply serums, creams, and other topical treatments after using the microneedling procedure. Since small micro-openings have been created, these products are able to reach deeper layers of the skin and bring about many benefits.
